A great way to use up marshmallows, cereal and peanut butter.
Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats are a fun twist on the classic.
Ingredients
- Rice Krispies: You need Rice Krispies or any crispy rice cereal. No name brands work just as well!
- Marshmallows: Use mini marshmallows, or chop up larger ones so they melt faster.
- Butter: Adds flavor and helps set the treats.
- Peanut Butter: Adds a great flavor! I use smooth for this recipe, so there aren't any chunks of peanut in the riced krispie treats.
- Chocolate: use chocolate chips or chopped up chocolate to melt for the top of the treats. I use milk chocolate, but you can swap to white chocolate or dark chocolate.
- Reece's Pieces: Optional, but they add more hits of peanut butter flavor when sprinkled onto the melted chocolate. Plus, they add a great color and texture.
See the recipe card for the full method and quantities.
Instructions
Melt: Add the marshmallows, peanut butter, and butter to a large pot over a low heat. Stir and let it all melt together.
Mix: Stir in the Rice Krispies.
Pan: Pour it into the pan and spread it evenly to the edges. Set the pan aside.
Tip: you can lightly spray your hands or a wooden spoon with non-stick cooking spray, or smear with a little butter, to stop the marshmallowy mixture sticking.
Chocolate: Melt the chocolate (either in a microwave in 30 second bursts, stirring between each burst, or in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water.
Topping: Pour the chocolate over the rice krispies in the pan, and spread to the edges evenly. Sprinkle the top with the Reece’s Pieces.
